Green Formed in their home town of Detroit in 1981, Figures on a Beach from the outset of their career was conceived with the purpose of writing intelligent and exciting pop songs. The five members collectively fuse all manner of influences to play a driving, stylish music, meshing cutting-edge keyboard sounds with the classic clamor of guitar, bass and drums, adding always tuneful vocals with thoughtful, socially conscious lyrics to form a unique and distinctive ensemble sound. After quickly becoming one of Detroit's most popular live acts, Figures on a Beach embarked on its recording career with a series of EP's for local indie Metro-America Records, making a name for themselves on the basis of strong club and alternative play. 1984's "Breathless," produced by now-famous Don Was, reached as high as #29 on Billboard's dance chart. These early efforts were also compiled on a cassette only compilation, "Paradise and Other Four Letter Words."During their stay in Detroit, Figures on a Beach also found themselves in the position of being a highly desired opening act for touring groups, and shared stages with a variety of bands, including The B-52's, several dates with the legendary X, Echo and the Bunnymen and Bauhaus. The band relocated to Boston in late 1985, lured by promises of impending record deals and fresher seafood. Figures on a Beach then began their major label recording career after being interrupted at a sound check at The Rat by someone from Sire Records who was knocked out by a demo of theirs entitled "No Stars." The label quickly whisked them off to London to cut aforementioned track and ten others for their 1987 album debut, "Standing on Ceremony." The Baltimore Sun termed it "an excellent, remarkably self-assured debut lp," while The Boston Globe hailed its "well crafted songs that display depth, variety and intelligence." "No Stars" remains a frequently played alternative radio hit, and was also Figures on a Beach's MTV debut proper. After a string of club dates, Figures on a Beach spent most of 1988 writing and recording the album, "Figures on a Beach," at Syncro Sound in Boston. Tim Riley in The Boston Phoenix deemed the disc a "superior follow-up," and praised the group's 1989 Hub Club tour debut by noting that their "live muscle improves on their spotless recording gloss."...and of course out of print....great for djs.....still gets airplay on flashback radio stations like KROQ & Star......very cool.....great for collectors..fans of alternative, new wave,, Lesbian Rock,,retro 90s wil like this...winner pays postage ...$4.00 in the USA (foreign pays applicable)...good luck!..Powered by eCRATER .
